Varador 2000, in collaboration with the Sant Elm Fishermen’s Guild, has organized the second edition of the Maresmar festival at the Port of Arenys. This maritime and fishing event brought together a significant number of traditional and contemporary fishing boats under the theme “fishing as the engine of the blue economy,” showcasing a unique display of the fishing and maritime traditions of the Maresme region.
Visitors had the opportunity to admire and tour iconic vessels such as the century-old brigantine Sirius and the century-old Sant Ramon llaut, both typically based in the port of Mataró. The current fishing fleet was represented by the Sinera trawler, the largest trawler in the port of Arenys, which visitors could explore from the bridge to its engine room.
The El Moll d’Arenys association was represented by the Scottish fishing vessel Margaret Alison and the Odina falucho, originally a seine boat from L’Escala. Throughout the weekend, visitors were able to tour the Margaret Alison, which also hosted several sea shanty concerts on its deck.
The Maresmar 2024 maritime-fishing festival is co-financed by the European Union and the Generalitat of Catalonia through the GALP Costa Brava Sud – Maresme.
