Margaret Alison or Fire Rose?

The complete restoration carried out to recover the Margaret Alison was accompanied by the decision, just moments before returning her to the water, to rename her with a name more connected to the coast that now hosts her. Finding a new name that also honored her original name—June Rose—was no easy task. This reflection led to Rosa de Foc (Fire Rose), a strong, identity-filled, and relatable name that connected the vessel to Barcelona. The flower from Barcelona’s panot paving stones, adapted as a rose, became the sole symbol identifying the ship throughout 2023 while it remained moored at the dock. During this time, the engine, steering systems, and rigging were finalized.

In the summer, shorter outings and events began, such as the Maresmar 2024 maritime gathering in Arenys Port. By then, the name Margaret Alison was once again displayed on the bow, sharing its identity with Rosa de Foc. The decision to formally retain the name Margaret Alison was made just days prior. This is the name by which the vessel is known in the ports of Catalonia, Mallorca, and Scotland, places that have marked different chapters of her life.

During the months of waiting before she set sail again, the new name gained traction, yet the question of abandoning the old Margaret Alison name lingered. Margaret Alison had been the symbol of all the efforts and reconstruction work undertaken from 2018 to 2023.

The first public voyage took place during the Minves d’Arenys gathering on February 3, 2024, accompanied by the Odina, Sant Ramon, and Sant Pau, among other boats from Arenys. With all the equipment and documentation finally in order, the first official voyage was in June at the traditional sailing gathering. This journey took her to Vilassar de Mar, returning in a convoy with the Sant Ramon to the Port of Mataró.
